Video: Cougars' Season Ends With 42-14 Loss to Crusaders

Haddam Killingworth football team outmatched by Holy Cross in first round of state tournament.

 

Holy Cross ended Haddam Killingworth's hopes of earning its eighth straight victory Tuesday night, defeating the Cougars 42-14 in the first round of the Class S semifinals at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

After falling behind 21-0 in the first quarter, HK senior running back Dan Gernman led the Cougars on two impressive second quarter drives to make the score 28-14 at halftime.

The Cougars were unable to capitalize on their momentum in the second half, as freshman Isaiah Wright scored on a 24-yard reverse early in the third quarter.

Wright finished the night with three touchdowns and an interception for the Crusaders.

German carried the ball 19 times for 82 yards and scored a touchdown, but left the game in the second half due to a lower leg injury. Senior Andrew Vollaro rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.

HK finishes the season 8-3.
