Coginchaug Fall Sports Preview: Football

Coach John Bozzi's Blue Devils look to rebuild after graduating all of the team's big playmakers in 2011.

Last season: 6-4

Season Opener: Sept. 15 vs. Nonnewaug, at Nonnewaug High School at 1 p.m.

Coach Bozzi's Season Outlook: We graduated 15 starters (9 defense/6 offense) including Alex Corrazinni, who plays at Wesleyan, Ethan Donecker and Andrew Paxton who's playing at Plymouth State. We graduated our top three rushers and our top four receivers so we're totally rebuilding that part of the game.

This year's team, we're certainly younger. I think the camaraderie level is better. I think they're a more motivated bunch. They're a fun group to work with.

We've got a bunch of hard working kids. We like 'em. I don't think lack of effort will be a problem.

Seniors: Ian Auger (C), Sean Harper (C), John Crandall, Jacob Nickel, Conner Thrall, Jeffrey Grumm and David Melcchionne.

Underclassmen to Watch: Tyler Meeker (QB) (Full roster here)

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
