Coginchaug Education Foundation Looks to Honor Local Volunteer

The award is given out to a Durham or Middlefield resident who embodies the spirit of leadership.

The below posting came from a press release.

The Coginchaug Valley Education Foundation (CVEF) is looking for nominations for the Howard Kelley Achievement Award.

Kelley, who passed away in 2010, was a founding board member of CVEF. The award was established in his memory to honor individuals in the community who, like him, embody the spirit of leadership in the community, particularly his devotion to volunteerism and education.

Last year's recipient was Sue Michael. She is a science teacher at Coginchaug Regional High School, and she also heads up the ECO team. As a community and environmental activist, she has been part of several local groups receiving CVEF grants, most recently the Durham Fair Composting project.

If you know of someone in our community that you think should be considered for this award, please email the name and a brief supporting statement to: merrilladams@comcast.net. The deadline for submission of names is Friday, November 15. The awardee will be honored at a December reception.

CVEF was founded in March 2008 as an independent education foundation. The mission of CVEF is to promote excellence, innovation and creativity in education for the community and to support lifelong learning in Durham and Middlefield by giving grants and sponsoring programs.
