Coginchaug Blanks Westbrook 9-0 to Advance in Shoreline Tournament

Mari Handley's nine strikeouts leads Blue Devils past Knights.

 

Mari Handley struck out nine batters on Friday afternoon to lead Coginchaug past Westbrook 9-0 in the opening round of the Shoreline Conference softball tournament.

Handley gave up just two hits in five innings and her Blue Devils teammate, Lauren Esposito, didn't give up a hit in two innings of relief.

Coginchaug put the game out of reach early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings on errors by the Knights. Westbrook finished the game with four errors, including three wild pitches. 

Esposito had two hits and Kayla Votto scored two runs to lead Coginchaug.

The Blue Devils will host the winner of Morgan/Hale Ray on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
