BOE Continues Search for New District 13 Superintendent

An online survey was launched Monday and focus groups will begin meeting soon.

The Regional District 13 Board of Education on Monday launched an online survey as it seeks input on the selection of a new superintendent of schools in Durham and Middlefield.

Susan Viccaro left the post in June to take a job as superintendent of schools in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Dr. Ernest Perlini was hired to serve as school's chief on an interim basis.

The online survey is designed to give the superintendent search committee a leadership profile "that incorporates a composite of the most desired attributes and personal characteristics identified by the school district and extended community stakeholders."

The survey is just one way for community members to get involved, according to school board chairman Kerrie Flanagan. In addition, focus groups made up of parents, students and staff will be brought together over the next few weeks to help in the search process.

The focus groups are voluntary and a schedule of the meetings can be found on the district's website. The district has also created a resource page for the superintendent search.

School officials are hopeful to have a new superintendent by January.
