Original Story

Residents in Durham and Middlefield can expect as much as 8-10 inches of snow to fall overnight from the first big snowstorm of 2014.

The National Weather Service is reporting that accumulation will continue Thursday evening, Jan. 2, to Friday morning, Jan. 3, with blizzard-like conditions expected.

Gov. Dannel Malloy has opened an emergency operations center allowing for state officials to respond to incidents quickly.

Malloy also ordered a delayed opening for state offices on Friday, directing all nonessential state employees to report to work at 9:30 a.m.

"The delayed opening will allow extra time for transportation crews to clear the roads from tonight’s anticipated snowfall," the governor said in a press release.

The state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection will be posting updates.
