Selectman: Irene, October Nor'easter Cost Town Less Than $17K Combined

Durham First Selectman Laura Francis said the town has now received all reimbursement payments from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

We know know exactly how much Tropical Storm Irene and last October's record breaking snowstorm cost Durham taxpayers — $16,671.

The final figure was announced by First Selectman Laura Francis at Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting, who said the town had received all reimbursement checks from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Connecticut was declared a natural disaster area following both storms last year, making town's eligible for up to 75 percent reimbursement from costs associated with the storm.

"Again, I want to say thank you to all of our staff and to our volunteers," Francis said. "Without their dilegence in seeking reimbursement from FEMA we never would have recovered all of these expenses and considering what we went through, it's amazing. We were very fortunate."
