Public Hearing on Right to Farm Ordinance Tonight

Agriculture Commission members say ordinance would send message to Durham farmers that the town supports their efforts.

 

A public hearing will be held this evening in Durham on a proposed Right to Farm Ordinance.

The hearing will begin at 8 p.m. at Durham Town Hall.

The ordinance was proposed last month by Agriculture Commission chairman Warren Herzig and member Fred Mastele.

"I think it sends a message to the Ag operators in town that the town supports them and their efforts and I think going forward if families wish to continue or if other people are interested in trying to set up in a farm I think it sets a statement that the town, provided that you follow generally accepted practices, supports you," Herzig said.
