Petrella to Challenge Brayshaw for First Selectman in Middlefield

Democrats and Republicans announced their election slate Tuesday night at the Middlefield Community Center.

Neither event had much pomp and circumstance, but the announcement of nominees Tuesday night during the Middlefield Democratic and Republican caucuses set the stage for this November's election.

Republicans, lead by incumbent First Selectman Jon Brayshaw, will send four challengers to the polls. Here's the Republican slate:

First Selectman: Jon Brayshaw (see video)
Selectman: Ed Bailey
Treasurer: Kimberly Schmaltz
Board of Assessment Appeals: Jean Gay
Board of Finance: Marie Benedetto, Frank St. John
Town Clerk: Vanessa Schmaltz

Democrats are lead by Lucy Petrella, who will look to unseat Brayshaw as First Selectman. Mary Johnson, who currently serves as minority Selectman, will be stepping down in the fall. Here's the Democratic slate:
