Poll: Was Eastwood's GOP Convention Speech Entertaining — or Weird?

The 82-year-old film actor, director, producer and composer was the hot topic late this week when he spoke to an empty chair on stage, saying, "I've got Mr. Obama sitting here and I was just going to ask him a couple questions."

The Academy Award-winning Hollywood director Clint Eastwood, most famous for his Dirty Harry role, preceded Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's appearance on stage on Thursday in Tampa, Fla.

The 82-year-old's 11-minute speech, which rambled in spots and took stabs at President Obama's "target date for bringing everyone home [soldiers from the Middle East]," by addressing an empty chair beside him up at the podium as "Mr. Obama," had those in the audience laughing and cheering — but many at home waiting for, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"

His quips continued with "Obama" seeming to use vulgar language: "What should I tell Mr. Romney? I can't tell him to do that. He can't do that to himself. You're absolutely crazy. You're getting as bad as Biden. ... Biden is the intellect of the Democratic party, kind of a grin with a body behind it."

Patch wants to know what you think of Eastwood's performance. Please take our poll and tell us what you think in the comment section.

What most of us believe? How about just speaking for yourself, Fred. The president is leading (albeit) just slightly in all the polls. To say that most people believe the president is doing a bad job is a huge stretch and very presumptuous on your part.

Yes, John P., but don't you find it equally troubling that many people believe that a Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that was placed there because a rib woman ate an apple given to her by a talking snake in a magical tree ?

Oh, PDY, prepare yourself for disappointment on November 2.

Clint Eastwood wasn't the least bit lost!! In fact he has more on the ball in terms of his understanding than many half his age. He IS 80 and a gravelly 80 year old voice can take some listening but he's sharp as they come and calls 'em as he sees 'em. Refreshing! I read a transcript of his speech to catch what I missed. It was clear, well thought out, pointed and funny! To quote Glenn Dean Gallup in his response on powerlineblog: "Clint's masterpiece of sly, sad, funny, gentle dismemberment" was well worth the effort. :)
