Middlefield Budget Meeting Postponed, Renninghoff Elected to BOE

Longtime Board of Education member Bill Currlin loses seat following vote.

Town officials decided Monday night to postpone a vote on Middlefield's 2011-2012 budget until Monday, May 16. The move was unanimously approved by the roughly 75 residents who attended the annual budget hearing.

First Selectman Jon Brayshaw previously indicated that the board planned to take a wait-and-see approach to the budget, as the town awaits the outcome of the Regional School District 13 budget.

A second referendum on the Regional School District 13 budget has been scheduled for Thursday, May 26.

Residents did cast ballots Monday, re-electing Region School District 13 Board of Education member Nancy Boyle (40 votes).

Jeremy Renninghoff, a finance board member, received enough votes (34) to unseat long-time board member, Bill Currlin (24).

"My heart goes out to him. He's put so much blood, sweat and tears into this board," Boyle said of Currlin.

Board of Education members elected on Monday will serve a two-year term, beginning on July 1.
