Meet the Killingworth Republican Candidates

Republican Board of Finance Nominee, Nancy Gorski, shares a letter of support in preparation for the September primary.

This is an important election year for towns across Connecticut. In advance of the November elections, there will be a Republican and Democratic Primary Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Killingworth Elementary School 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We encourage you to vote and ask for you to please consider us, the Killingworth Republican Town Committee endorsed candidates, with the honor of your support:

Board of Finance, John McMahon

John is a 34 year resident of Killingworth and has spent 25 of those years volunteering in numerous capacities with the goal of improving the quality of life in or community. He has served for the past 12 years as a member of the Board of Finance and 8 years as chairman. John has also served as President and Secretary of the Killingworth Lions, Youth and Family Services Board Member, Housing Partnership Committee Member, Treasurer and Board Member of the Killingworth Foundation, Chairman of the Killingworth Scholarship Association, Chairman of the Killingworth Lions Service Award Committee, Town Picnic Committee Member, as well as a previous Chairman if the Killingworth Republican Town Committee. His goal is “to make a positive difference in improving Killingworth for all our residents”.

Board of Finance, Nancy Gorski

Nancy, a 12-year resident of Killingworth, has served on the Board of Education and has held numerous positions on the Killingworth Republican Town Committee which she currently serves as Chair. She also supports Killingworth as a class advisor for the HK Leo’s Club and hostess of the Killingworth Lights Spectacular. Nancy looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the Board of Finance, working as a team to responsibly manage the town’s budget.

Tax Collector, Jerry Baron

Jerry has resided in Killingworth for the past 10 years, after a career in finance and accounting. A member of Killingworth’s Board of Finance, he is well-versed in the fiscal details and challenges facing our town and its citizens. He is highly-credentialed; holding a masters degree in business administration, is a CPA, and is computer literate. He expects his professional experience will not only benefit the Tax Collector’s Office but other areas of the Town’s financial systems. Jerry has been an active member of the Killingworth Republican Town Committee for over 7 years and has also campaigned for Republican candidates for state and national offices.

Treasurer, Paul Bushey

Paul has been a resident of Killingworth for 10 years. He has been active in politics the past 2 ½ yrs and is a member of the Killingworth Republican Town Committee. Paul is also an organizer for a local citizen action group.

Planning & Zoning, Thomas L. Lentz

Tom Lentz has lived in Killingworth on Schnoor Road since 1966. He has served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 32 years and is the current Chairman. He is also the Municipal Historian for Killingworth and historian for the Congregational Church in Killingworth. He authored the book A Photographic History of
Killingworth. He received the Killingworth Lions Club Citizen of the Year with his wife Judith in 1994 and the Secretary of the State’s Public Service Award in 2002. He supports preserving the rural residential character of Killingworth.

Planning & Zoning, Sue Morgan

Sue Morgan has lived in Killingworth for 37 years. She was a Brownie/Girl Scout leader in the 1980's and was an H-K mentor for several years. Sue has 10 years experience on the Planning & Zoning Commission. Sue is committed to preserving Killingworth's countryside and will continue to regard the vision and direction that the residents share about Killingworth's future development.

Zoning Board of Appeals, Debby Butler

Debby is a 25-year resident in town. During that time she has been very active on the Republican Town Committee, served on the Conservation Commission and was elected to the Board of Assessment Appeals. She is an incumbent on the Zoning Board of Appeals and is on the Board of Directors of the Killingworth Land Conservation Trust, serving as Trails Chairman. Debby is a teacher, a former Girl Scout troop leader, is a Justice of the Peace and serves on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Education Association.

Zoning Board of Appeals, Bruce Dodson

Bruce has lived on Schnoor Road in Killingworth for over 36 years. He has been Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 16 years and has served the town as a Director, Vice President and President of the Killingworth Land Conservation Trust, Director, Secretary and Vice President of the Killingworth Lions Club, Director of the Killingworth Historical Society, member of the town Open Space and Parmelee Farm Steering Committees, and received the Lion of the Year Award in 1999, Secretary of the State Public Service Award in 2002, Citizen of
the Year award in 2009, and the International Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest award of Lions International. Bruce has developed nearly four miles of hiking trails at Parmelee Farm and organized the Lions Club concerts benefiting Parmelee Farm, including Richie Havens in 2009, Judy Collins in 2010 and Arlo Guthrie
scheduled for later this year. Like his neighbor Tom Lentz, Bruce is committed to preserving the rural character of Killingworth.

Board of Assessment Appeals, Lewis Scranton

Lewis is a 45-year resident of Killingworth. Lewis is a former real estate broker and has been an antique dealer for the past 43 years. He was instrumental in forming the Killingworth Historical Society, serving as a past president and currently serving on its board of directors. Lewis is a member of the “demolition commission” which ensures buildings older than 75 years old are reviewed for historical value. He serves as a board member of the Conservation Commission. He is an active member of the Killingworth Republican Town Committee, also
serving on its Nominating Committee. His background in realty, together with his knowledge of the town, makes him well suited for Board of Assessment Appeals.

Fire Commissioner, Michael Butler

Mike, a 25-year resident of Killingworth, has so far served as Fire Commissioner for eight years and is running for re-election as an incumbent. He previously served on the Police Department Cost & Operational Study Committee and was Town Treasurer. He has a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from
Quinnipiac University, CPR certification from the Red Cross, special licenses from the Public Safety Departments of several states, and is a Justice of the Peace.

We are all aware of the many issues facing our state that will translate into issues facing Killingworth. Each of us has a history of giving to Killingworth, whether serving as elected officials, or on many of its boards or committees. We not only talk about the quality of life to Killingworth, we work to support it. We recognize the need for working
together to ensure our citizens tax dollars are used judiciously. It is vitally important that you vote in the primary to insure that we elect responsible leaders in Killingworth.
