Hurricane Sandy: Durham Prepares for Storm's Arrival

The following is a message from First Selectman Laura Francis:

The Emergency Operations Center for the Town of Durham which is located at the Town Hall has been activated in response to Hurricane Sandy.  The emergency storm hotline has also been activated.  For all storm related issues, please call 860 343-6735.

Widespread power outages and damage from fallen trees are expected due to high wind and rainfall. You are expected to shelter in place in order to give our emergency crews adequate time to make our roadways safe for passage.  This may take several days. Unless conditions warrant otherwise, the Emergency Center at Coginchaug High School is expected to open no earlier than Wednesday for such services as Food/Water distribution, hot meals, charging stations, internet access, showers and overnight accommodations.  RSD13 schools have been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday.

Emergency service personnel are on standby to meet your needs as required.  Please call 911 for emergencies only and direct all other storm related assistance requests to (860)-343-6735.

Thank you for your cooperation and be safe.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
