Voting Expected to Pick Up Late in Durham

The polls remain open until 8 p.m..

By 5 p.m., less than a third of registered voters in Durham had voted in Tuesday's election — or 1,649 voters to be exact.

Moderator Lou Battipaglia remained hopeful, saying he expected about 50 percent voter turnout by the time the polls at Korn School closed at 8 p.m.

"It was really busy this morning, but then it slowed down," he said.

In 2007 — the last time a full election was held in Durham — 2,699 residents voted, or just short of 57 percent of the 4,745 registered voters at the time.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
