Durham State Rep. Candelora to Host Forum on New Gun Laws

Free event will be held in North Branford on Sept. 10.

On Tuesday, September 10th Deputy House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora (R-86) is hosting an informational forum to answer questions about Connecticut’s new gun laws, required forms and declaration certificates.

The forum will be held at the North Branford Town Hall located at 909 Foxon Road and will run from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

“The new laws passed by the legislature this year can be difficult for residents to navigate and understand,” said Candelora. “But the stakes are pretty high if the laws are not followed properly so I want to make sure people have the opportunity to discuss the new forms and processes and ask questions if they are unclear on the particulars.”

In April the state legislature passed sweeping reforms to the state’s gun laws in response to the tragic events of Sandy Hook Elementary School. While some portions of the law have already taken affect, beginning on January 1, 2014 there are new registration requirements and restrictions that legal gun owners will be required to follow.

The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is in charge of overseeing the new registration requirements. Because people that fail to fill out the proper registration forms in a timely manner could be guilty of a crime under the new law, Candelora said he hopes people do their research and attend the forum if they have remaining questions.

The event is free and open to the public. For questions about the event people should feel free to contact Rep. Candelora’s office by calling (860) 240-8700 or sending an email to Vincent.candelora@housegop.ct.gov.

State Representative Vincent Candelora represents the 86th Legislative District communities of Durham, Guilford, North Branford and Wallingford.
