Durham, Middlefield Should Escape Full Impact of Arrigoni Construction

Town planner says Durham and Middlefield shouldn't be impacted too much by bridge work.

Today marks the start of construction along the Arrigoni Bridge, an 18-month project that will reduce the bridge to two lanes of traffic.

Patch recently spoke to Durham and Middlefield town planner Geoff Colegrove about the impact the repairs might have on the two towns.

Colegrove, who has served as a liason for the towns in meetings with the Department of Transportation, said he did not expect much impact in Durham or Middlefield.

"The problem areas, in order, will be Middletown, Portland and Cromwell. The Middlesex Chamber [of Commerce] has done a good job of reaching out to businesses that might be impacted," he said.

Colegrove said drivers who use the bridge to cross the river should expect delays, but he added that the DOT has provided lots of useful information to alert drivers, including traffic signs and updates on the web.
