Video: State Champs, Girl Scouts Honored by BOS

The Coginchaug girls basketball team and local girl scouts attended Monday night's board meeting where a proclamation was read in their honor.

At Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting in Durham, the Coginchaug girls basketball state championship team was formally honored by the town.

"While this isn't like going to the White House, we wanted to have you here and honor you and thank you for representing our town so very well," said First Selectman Laura Francis before reading a proclamation honoring the team.

On March 17, Coginchaug won the team's first ever .

The board also honored local girl scouts as the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary.

"We, the Board of Selectmen, on behalf of the residents of the town of Durham, do herby applaud the Girls Scouts of the United States of America for their 100 years of leadership and expertise, as the voice for and of girls and proudly proclaim 2012 as the Year of the Girl. Congratulations girls," Francis said to a small group of scouts who came to the meeting.

On May 19, the Girl Scouts of Connecticut will mark the anniversary with the Girl Scouts 100th Jubilee at the Durham Fairgrounds.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
