Audit: Powder Ridge Buyer's Business Plan Viable

An independent accountant presented Middlefield officials with the findings Wednesday.

Middlefield selectman on Wednesday night unanimously passed a resolution to accept the findings of an independent audit of Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park owner Sean Hayes' finances.

Teresa Opalacz of Guilmartin, DiPiro & Soklowski provided Middlefield officials with an oral report of the audit during a special meeting of the Board of Selectmen.

The audit found that Hayes has the funds available to purchase and restore Powder Ridge and has a demonstrated a viable business plan, according to selectmen.

This report was a result of a letter of engagement that the Town of Middlefield accepted from Guilmartin, DiPiro & Soklowski Certified Public Accountants to evaluate the ability of the Buyers of Powder Ridge to fund the $700.000 in payments to purchase the property, ability to document $2,000,000 in funds to restore Powder Ridge, evaluation of the Buyers credit risk, and evaluation of the Buyers business plan.

"This report to the Board of Selectmen was one of the last pieces of information that the BOS needs prior to moving this forward for Town approval," selectman Ed Bailey said in an email.
