Police Forced to Use Taser to Subdue Man After Search in Durham and Haddam

State police used a taser to subdue a Haddam man Monday after he led police on a two-and-a-half hour search in Durham and Haddam.

Timothy Matregrano, 40, of 204 Cedar Lake Road, was charged with breach of peace, threatening and interfering with an officer.

Matregrano's parents called 911 Monday morning and told police that their son was acting erratically and was "highly intoxicated," according to Sgt. Sal Calvo.

The couple told police that he had left their home in a car and that they were concerned for their son's well-being.

"Through the cell phone towers we were able to ping him and determine that he was in the Durham area, in the vicinity of Blue Hills Road," Calvo said.

Troopers from State Police Troop F and Troop H baracks, as well as a state police K-9 unit, conducted a search near Arrigoni Pond but were unable to locate Matregrano.

A short time later, police received a call that Matregrano had returned to his parent's home.

"Once the troopers got to the house, he took off into the woods. The troopers could hear him screaming and yelling," Calvo said.

Eventually, Matregrano returned to the home and came out of the garage holding a large stick, according to Calvo, but refused orders to put it down.

"When Trooper Milardo backed up to pull his taser, at this point the father was right there and he went to attack his father. That's when Trooper Milardo tasered him," Calvo said.

Matregrano was not injured. He was taken to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation.

He's being held on a $1,000 bond and is due in court July 14.
