Police: Killingworth Man Arrested After Hitting Mailboxes With Car in Durham

Christopher Grotz charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Monday, July 18

John C. Anderson, 31, of 37 Dudley Lane, Madison, was arrested and charged with third degree assault, violation of a protective order and breach of peace. Police say Anderson was arrested after they were called to a disturbance at a home on Route 81 in Killingworth.

Christoper Grotz, 59, of 512 Route 148, Killingworth, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and evading responsibility. Around 6 p.m., 911 dispatchers received at least two calls that a driver was running over mailboxes along Maple Avenue in Durham. Using a description of the vehicle and a license plate number police tracked down Grotz at his home. Police say Grotz failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.

William J. Salva, 47, of 233 Main Street, Durham, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, improper registration and failure to obtain proper insurance. According to police, Salva was initially stopped along Route 17 in Durham on suspicion of motor vehicle violations and was subsequently arrested.

Monday, August 8

Richard Francis Torino, 73, of Branford, and Tourage Abbasi, 52, of Hamden, were arrested for disorderly conduct in an incident on Goldfield Road in Killingworth. According to police the two suspects "pushed each other" but no injuries were reported.

Kevin Carney, 18, of Plantsville, was involved in a one car accident along Rt. 68 (near Skeetclub Road) in Durham. Carney told police he reached for a drink before his vehicle collided with a guardrail. Carney was cited for failing to maintain his lane but was not injured.

Saturday, August 13

Henry Szyszka, 36, of New Haven, was involved in a one car accident at the intersection of Rt. 148 and Rt. 81 in Killingworth. Police say Szyszka lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree. He was not hurt and no citations were issued.

Tuesday, August 16

James Ouellette, 60, of Glastonbury, was involved in a crash along Route 81 in Killingworth. Police say Ouelette was following another vehicle too close and swerved to avoid the car but hit a telephone pole. No injuries reported.
