Police: Durham Man Hits Fire Hydrant, Gets Arrested for DWI

38-year-old Geoffrey Webb was charged last week with driving drunk after Middletown Police say he struck a fire hydrant and then left the scene of the accident.

 

A Durham man has been charged with driving drunk after police say he crashed into a fire hydrant in Middletown.

Geoffrey Patrick Webb, 38, of Oak Terrace, was charged with driving while intoxicated and evading responsibility on Sept. 19.

According to a police report, a witness saw Webb hit a fire hydrant at South Main and Loveland streets and then take off from the scene. Police used a description of the vehicle to locate Webb a short time later.

Officers say Webb showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests.

Subsequent tests revealed that Webb had a blood alcohol content of .183 and .175, more than twice the legal limit.

Webb was released on $500 bond and is due in court on Friday.
