Police: Durham Man Caught Stealing Metal from Powder Ridge

Two men charged with larceny and criminal trespassing.

Two men were caught stealing metal from Powder Ridge ski area last week, police say.

21-year-old Thomas Debaise of Durham and 24-year-old Justin Lancraft of New Haven were arrested Friday afternoon during a check of the town owned property at 99 Powder Hill Road in Middlefield, according to police.

Resident Trooper Eric Kelly was on routine patrol shortly before 3:30 p.m. when he noticed a lock on the gate to the property had been cut.

Upon further investigation Kelly found Debaise and Lancraft in a car parked on the property.

Both men were found in possession of metal stolen from the property, according to Kelly.

Debaise and Lancraft face sixth degree larceny and criminal trespassing charges. Lancraft was also charged with third degree criminal mischief.
