Police: Durham Man Arrested for Driving Drunk on Moped

Police say David M. McKee was headed home from Middletown last month when he veered off the road and hit a chain link fence.

A Durham man was arrested last week after police say he crashed his moped into a chain link fence near DeKoven Drive in Middletown.

David M. McKee, 47, of 477 Route 68, is charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating a motor vehicle in violation of license classification.

According to a police report, at approximately 6:49 p.m. on Nov. 23, an officer witnessed McKee wobbling from side to side on a moped while attempting to turn onto James A. Moses Avenue from DeKoven Drive.

McKee veered into the opposite lane of traffic before driving the moped into a chain link fence, the report says. When McKee stood up, the report says, he was "swaying back and forth."

McKee failed a series of sobriety tests and agreed to submit to breathalizer tests. The results were 0.19 and 0.18, according to the report.

McKee was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 12.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
