Police: Driver Causes Wreck in Rockfall After Fleeing Crash in Meriden

44-year-old Brian Inferrera of Portland was arrested on July 6 and faces multiple charges.

A driver blamed for a crash in Meriden slammed his car into another driver in Rockfall while attempting to flee from his first victim, according to police.

Brian Inferrera, 44, of 18 Commerce Street, Portland, was charged with reckless driving, evading, operating without insurance and failure to drive in the proper lane on July 6.

According to police, Inferrera hit another driver in his 1998 Chevy Lumina in Meriden but did not stop after the accident. When Inferrera took off, the driver, Jeffrey Hatt of Wallingford, followed Inferrera to attempt to get him to pull over.

Police say Inferrera was headed east on Spring Street in Rockfall when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Ross Road and slammed into a second car being driven by Frank Lapila of Killingworth.

Lapila was taken by ambulance to Middlesex Hospital after complaining of chest pains. No other injuries were reported.

Inferrara did not have insurance, police said. He was arrested.

Inferrara was released on $500 bond and is due in court July 20.
