Police Blotter: Sept. 22 - Oct. 4

The following information was provided by Connecticut State Police and local police departments.

 

Saturday, Sept. 22

James P. Granata, 54, of Middletown, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance and improper use of a license plate. According to state police, Granata was traveling along Mack Road in Middlefield when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Explorer, went through a stop sign at the intersection of Jackson Hill Road and hit a utility pole. Granata was taken to Middlesex Hospital with unknown injuries.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

Morgan A. Jacques, 20, of Lakeshore Drive, Middlefield, and Taylor Morgan Proto, 20, of Killingworth Road, Higganum, were charged by Middletown Police with sixth degree larceny. According to a report, Jacques and Proto were at Bob's Stores on East Main Street, where loss prevention officers had detained them for placing items in their handbags and leaving the store without paying. Each stole $49.95 worth of clothing, the report says.

Monday, Oct. 1

Louie John Wescott, 28, of Edgewood Court, Middlefield, was picked up at adult probation on Main Street in Middletown for an outstanding warrant. Wescott was wanted for third degee criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and violation of a protective order.

State police were called to the area of 401 Stagecoach Road in Durham to investigate a crash involving a motor scooter. According to a report, Arthur Roberts, 51, of North Haven, was traveling southbound when he failed to negotiate a right curve and crashed. Roberts evaded the scene of the accident and left the scooter behind, police say. He was located several hours and transported to Yale-New Haven hospital for evaluation. No charges were filed.

Thursday, Oct. 4 

State police were called to a one-vehicle accident involving Matthew M. Popek, 23, of 254 Maiden Lane, Durham. According a report, Popek was driving a 2002 Hyundai Accent along Maiden Lane near Brick Lane when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree and a road sign. Popek was transported to Middlesex Hospital after complaining of head, neck and back pain. The accident remains under investigation, the report says.

At the time of the accident, according to court records, Popek was wanted by state police for violation of a restraining order but it is unclear if he was taken into custody. Popek was arrested last October on similar charges.

I'm not a fan of the new format either, the old one was much easier to read and find what I wanted.Read More And, for the record, I've always hated any kind of coke and still do.
