A 27-year-old construction worker from Willimantic was killed Monday morning and two other people were hurt in a crash in front of Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, police say.
The victim's name hasn't been released because police are working to notify the victim's family.
According to Sgt. Sal Calvo, a pick-up truck with three people inside lost control and veered off Route 147 around 10:30 a.m. Monday. The truck rolled over and struck a telephone pole.
The man was pronounced dead shortly after the crash and the two other passengers were airlifted to Hartford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The workers were headed to a private home in Durham, Calvo said. A witness to the accident called 911 from Lyman's Apple Nine Golf Course.
Firefighters from Middlefield and Durham responded to the scene of the crash and closed down an area of the highway while state police investigated the accident.
The highway was closed for about two hours, Calvo said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Trp. Smitt at 860-399-2100.
