Man Charged With Possessing Weapon in Car in Lake Beseck Area

Police charged the Meriden man after getting a report of a suspicious vehicle going around the Middlefield lake.

A report of a suspicious car in the Lake Beseck area lead to the arrest of a Meriden man on a charge of possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Paul Manson, 26, of 170 Byron Road, was taken into custody after police responded to a report from a crime watch group that his "suspicious" vehicle was driving around the lake around 6:40 a.m. on Sept. 5.

The lake area recently was hit with a pair of car break-ins, one of which resulted in the theft of a GPS unit. The crime watch group told police Manson's vehicle matched the description of the one reported in the break-ins, according to a police report.

After police stopped him on Palisades Drive, Manson was nabbed on the weapons charge, the report said.

Manson, however, was not charged with burglary and is not being investigated as a suspect in connection with the car break-ins, Sgt. Sal Calvo told Durham-Middlefield Patch.

Manson is due in Middlesex Superior Court on Sept. 19 to answer to the weapons charge.
