The below posting is a press release from third grade teacher Jo Ann Pantalena
Third grade students at Francis E. Korn got a special treat on Friday, Oct. 18.
Miss Pantalena, a third grade teacher is also a volunteer EMT and volunteer Firefighter in Wallingford. She taught students fire safety focusing on safety reminders such as: stop-drop-and roll, planning two escape routes from a home, changing the batteries in a smoke alarm two times a year, and promising not to play with matches.
Lt. Poach, one of Miss Pantalena’s fellow firefighters, was present to assist with the talks and to answer the students’ questions. Firefighters Brian Szymaszek, Willett and Dunleavy brought one of Durham’s fire engines to school so that the students could experience seeing a fire truck up close.
Francis E. Korn would like to thank all of the firefighters for donating their time and expertise with the students. This fire safety presentation was a wonderful opportunity to bridge the school community with the local community.
Remember, “If you see a firefighter, hug a firefighter.” Firefighters, thank you for all that you do to keep us safe!
