Durham-Middlefield Police Blotter: April 1-5

The following arrest information was supplied by local and state police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, April 1

Paul J. Nicolai, 47, of 151 Tri Mountain Road, Durham, was arrested and charged with failure to appear. Nicolai was wanted on a PRAWN warrant for two counts of issuing a bad check and sixth degree larceny. According to an arrest warrant, in May 2012, Nicolai issued two bad checks in the amount of $80.37 and $36.68 to a UPS store in Cromwell. He was arrested in September.

Police responded to an accident on Pent Road. According to a report, an 18-year-old driver lost control and struck a utility pole, causing damage to the vehicle and snapping the pole in half. The driver was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The driver was not charged.

Tuesday, April 2

Ian Morris, 33, of Middletown was arrested charged with driving while intoxicated, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plate and no insurance. On Jan. 18, Morris was traveling on Cedar Street in Middlefield when he lost control of his vehicle and struck two trees, according to a report. Morris was transported to the hospital with injuries to his head and face. Morris is also charged with failure to respond to an infraction for violation of park/forest hours of operation.

Friday, April 5

State police issued an arrest warrant for Matthew Popek, 23, of Durham for failure to appear. Popek was arrested last month and charged with breach of peace and two counts of possession of narcotics.
