Durham Selling Reflective Address Signs; Used to Help Find a Home in Bad Weather

"If we can't find you, we can't help you," the town proclaims on the order form for the $15 sign.

As part of a community initiative to assist first responders during emergency calls, the Town of Durham is selling custom plastic address signs to any homeowner in town.

The signs, which cost $15, are made of a blue, reflective material with a white lettering displaying a resident's house number.

The purpose of the signs are to help responders — such as police, firefighters or EMTs — locate a home during an emergency.

"The signs are made of a highly visible, reflective, fade resistant materiel that is visible to first responders day or night," the Durham Volunteer Fire Company said in a post on its website.

This coming Saturday morning, Sept. 14, the Durham Fire Explorers Post 422 will be going door-to-door in town to promote and sell the reflective signs.

These signs are also available to purchase for (checks payable to The Town of Durham) and once ready for delivery the Explorers will assist with installation.

You can also purchase these signs by stopping at Durham Town Hall Building Department during normal business hours, the fire company said.

"We will be setting up some times that you can stop at the Durham Fire House at 41 Main St. to pick up an order form as well, dates TBD," the Facebook post said.
