Cops: Man Arrested for Third DUI Had Kids in Car

48-year-old William Salva of Durham was arrested by Middletown Police Wednesday for allegedly driving drunk with an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old in his car.

 

A Durham man arrested on drunk driving charges for the third time this week had two children in his car, according to Middletown Police.

48-year-old William Salva was arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court on Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and possession of narcotics outside a container.

According to an arrest report, Salva, who has several previous criminal convictions, was pulled over in Middletown on April 11. During a search of his vehicle, police discovered three Suboxone pills that were prescribed to someone other than Salva, the report says.

Police say two children, ages 11 and 13, were in the car when Salva was stopped. He was taken to the Middletown Police Department where he failed two blood-alcohol tests — the test results were .124 and .106. — according to police

Court records show that Salva previously pleaded guilty in November 2011 to operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol following his . He received a six month suspended jail sentence and was ordered to pay a $500 fine, the records show.

In July 2010, Connecticut State Police arrested Salva for operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license. He pleaded guilty in January 2011 and was ordered to pay a $150 fine.

In 2009, Salva was arrested by Middletown Police for third degree assault and violation of probation. He later pleaded guilty and received a one year suspended jail sentence and 18 months probation.

Salva's first DUI arrest came in 2002, when he was charged by Clinton Police. He pleaded guilty and served one year of probation.
