Affidavits: Durham Burglary Suspect Agreed to Pay Getaway Driver $30

Police have charged Kara Czlapinski, 26, of Ivoryton, and Dane Tilley, 30, of Middletown for their roles in the burglary of a home on Haddam Quarter Road in January.

In January, a Durham homeowner came face to face with the getaway driver accused of helping a man burglarize her Haddam Quarter Road home, according to arrest warrant affidavits released this week.

The getaway driver, identified as Kara Czlapinski, 26, of Ivoryton, admitted to authorities that she was promised $30 by Dane Tilley, 30, of Middletown, to drive him around to commit burglaries, the affidavits say.

Tilley was one of three men arrested on Tuesday for a rash of burglaries in Durham and several nearby towns between November in January.

On Jan. 30, according to the affidavits, Wallingford Police were called to High Hill Road where Tilley had entered a home after breaking a window and stole a safe containing approximately $17,000 in cash, credit cards and other documents.

Tilley also stole a large amount of costume jewelry and DVDs from the home, placing the items in a pillow case taken from the home, the affidavit says.

Following the burglary, police say Czlapinski and Tilley drove to Durham in Czlapinski's green, 1997 Honda Civic, where the pair stopped to burglarize a home on Haddam Quarter Road.

The homeowner, returning from being away, interrupted the burglary and reported the vehicle to authorities, according to police.

On Feb. 4, Czlapinski was interviewed by investigators and admitted to her involvement in the crimes. She was subsequently charged on with possession of burglar tools, possession of narcotics and use of drug paraphernalia.

Tilley was charged on Tuesday with third degree burglary, fourth degree larceny and second degree criminal mischief for the burglary in Durham. He also faces similar charges for his alleged involvement in multiple burglaries in the area, according to police.
