2-Car Crash Ties Up Traffic on Busy Washington Street in Middletown

Middletown Police and fire personnel responded to a collision between a Mercedes and Pontiac just before 1 p.m. Friday. The accident tied up traffic in all four directions.

Middletown Fire and Police are on the scene of a two-car accident at Routes 66 and 3 that has tied up traffic for more than an hour. Two vehicles, which appeared to be a black sport-style Mercedes and an out-of-state blue Pontiac SUV or minivan, were towed from the scene. It's unclear if there were any injuries.

Half-a-dozen patrol and traffic officers were manually directing traffic and assisting with the scene at the intersection of Washington Street and Newfield/Pine streets for the collision which took place just before 1 p.m. Friday.

The Pontiac's airbag was clearly deployed as the tow truck operator removed it from the scene.
