Patch's Poll: Linda McMahon or Chris Murphy?

The U.S. Senate hopefuls are now in a statistical tie in Connecticut's 2012 U.S. Senate race.

The Democratic and Republican candidates in the 2012 U.S. Senate race in Connecticut so far have solid leads against their primary opponents, .

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, the Democratic frontrunner, leads former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz 50-20 percent. Meanwhile, former WWE wrestling executive Linda McMahon leads her Republican opponent, former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays, 59-30 percent.

But, what’s even more notable in the latest poll, is the shrinking gap between Murphy and McMahon. Murphy’s lead is just 46 percent versus McMahon’s 43 percent among voters in the November election. This is a statistical tie, said QU Poll Director Douglas Schwartz.

“McMahon’s improvement in the general election against Murphy is due to her better performance among independent voters,” Schwartz said. “She now has 43 percent of these key voters, to Murphy’s 41 percent, overcoming a 15-point deficit in March.”

Which of the four main candidates do you support for this upcoming Senate election? Which would you likely vote for in November? Take our poll and add your thoughts to our comments.

Jay, they aren't blaming anyone, just stating the obvious.

All the voters on the democratic side need to remember is this: New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio did in fact get endorsed by Chris Murphy, Murphy likened himself to Daryl Justin FInizio. Daryl then endorsed Chris Murphy, Daryl likened Chris Murphy to himself and his leadership skillset. So does anyone out there want a US Senator who is like or acts as Mayor Daryl Justin FInizio of New London acts. That is the simple question to ask at the polls. Susan Bysiewicz is the better choice for democrats on Tuesday. Just read about Daryl Justin Finizio in any article on New London and you will know why. Chris Murphy is a Finizio supporter and look at Finizio and the damage he has done in just 8 months. With Chris Murphy as our Senator the whole state could be like New London.

All that the Democrat Party leadership cares about is getting the person who will vote as directed the most. That's true at every level of government, especially here in CT. They don't care about anything else; they don't want independent thinkers and certainly don't want bi-partisanship. Look at the State group. Look at the five members of the US House from CT. Look at Blumenthal. Then consider Joe Lieberman--castigated by his own party for marching only slightly out of lock-step with the Democrat Party. Another perfect example is the Democrat candidate for the 35th CGA seat being vacated by James Crawford, who is running for State Senate. Clinton Selectman Vicino does exactly as directed by the First Selectman and the DTC; I've not heard one independent thought come out of his mouth since he's been in local politics, certainly never an independent vote...a perfect Democrat Party candidate. Of course, that's not exactly an anomaly here in Clinton, where even some "Democrats" run as Republicans. Steve

Just to extend on what Steve has said, just because they call themselves republicans doesn't mean they deserve a vote. Consider them carefully on what they've done not on what they say they will do.
