Reader Not Impressed With Rep. Matt Lesser's Voting Record

Matt Lesser's name is very appropriate.

To the Editor:

I am writing to comment on our present State Rep. in the 100th District, Matt Lesser. What an appropriate name. Lesser of what, two evils?

Lesser has an entirely unimpressive voting record. He has NOT worked hard for the 100th District, and as I see it, is nothing more than a stooge for the entire Malloy regime. We need change. Vote for Deborah Kleckowski.

Sincerely,

Jeanette Caine, Middletown

I spoke with Matt Lesser on several occasions this year regarding legislation that was important to me. On each occasion I found Mr. Lesser to be very well informed regarding the issue and the legislation. He was very generous with his time, listened carefully to what I had to say and told me clearly where he stood. On an issue we disagreed on he gave me an ample opportunity to state my case and listened carefully to what I said. He had the courage and integrity to tell me to my face that my arguments hadn't convinced him to change his position, but also helped me to present my position to the legislature and the governor even though it was against the position he took. I haven't always agreed with him, but I have always found him to be intelligent, well informed, and responsive.

Matthew Lesser will gat my vote. I emailed him on several occasions when there was a move to overturn the law regarding the ban of pesticides on school lawns grades K-8. He opposed changing the law as it stands now (which PROTECTS our children from these chemicals being applied=directly on lawns where they play). This law will most likely be challenged again next spring and I want to know where my lawmakers stand on this issue.

Please refrain from using words like "idiot when in these political discussions. Yes, Mr. Lesser has gone through some growing pains while in office. Just understanding the danger he put the DUrham fair in a few years ago will support that. He is, however a very hard worker and advocate for our communities. There doesn't seem to be a community event that he misses. He wants what he feels is best for our community. If you don't agree with his policy viewpoints, then by all means vote accordingly, but don't call him an idiot. That type of attitude is exactly what is wrong with our national politics now. It doesn't need to be in our local elections as well. P.S. Lesser cant be a Malloy stooge because Malloy wasn't there before him!
