Lyman School's Big Heart for Local Children

John Lyman student's generous efforts have provided over 10 weeks of breakfast items for Durham and Middlefield students!

For the past several months, John Lyman School students and staff have stepped up to meet the nutrition needs of local children.  The DMYFS/RSD#13 Children's Nutrition Program provides breakfast, lunch and snacks to 19 Durham and Middlefield children nearly every weekend of the school year.  But when RSD #13 Superintendent, Sue Viccaro and DMYFS Program Director, Jane Moen reached out to the schools to fill their pantry shelves; Mrs. Abbott and her 1st/2nd grade class answered the call.

The class, with Mrs. Abbott's leadership, has held ongoing food drives at John Lyman school and several students have even asked for donations of breakfast items in lieu of presents for their recent birthday parties!  In total the effort has provided over 10 weeks of breakfast for children in the program.

The Children's Nutrition Program relies on donations to provide the weekend meals to local children and greatly appreciates the outpouring of effort and food items from John Lyman students.

If you would like to support this program as well, contact Jane Moen at jmoen.dmyfs@comcast.net.  The program currently is in need of canned soup and ravioli/spaghettios to keep our pantry stocked through the rest of the school year!

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
