New England Chamber Choir presents The Stabat Mater of Giovanni Pergolesi

On Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 4 p.m., members of the
New England Chamber Choir (NECC) will present the Stabat Mater of Giovanni Pergolesi at the Church of the Epiphany, 196 Main St., Durham, CT.

This12-movement piece, written for devotional use on Good Friday, describes the sorrows of Mary as she watches her son Jesus die on the cross. It is written for an ensemble of women’s voices.

The concert is free and open to the public; freewill offerings will be accepted at the end of the concert.

The New England Chamber Choir is comprised of gifted amateur musicians who perform the best of the sacred choral music repertory, ranging from Gregorian chant to classically-inspired contemporary music.

Most choir members of the choir have extensive choral experience, and the choir includes professional musicians, teachers of music and students of voice and various musical instruments.

The unique composition of NECC, along with the superb leadership of its music director, Richard Wm. Donohue, creates an atmosphere of musicianship, respect and passion, evident in the choir’s performances.
