On Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 9:00-12:00 teams made up of students, teachers, parents and community members will be roving the town in a scavenger like fashion.  Students will travel in teams of three or four following assigned routes to collect non-perishable items, canned goods, and gift cards that will be distributed to the needy.  Teams from each school will be eligible for a raffle prize and each student participating will also receive a raffle ticket affording him or her chance to win a $50.00 gift certificate to the Westfield Shopping Mall. In keeping with the spirit of the day, items will be counted for a grand total only.  Breakfast will be served at 8:30, sponsored by the Durham’s Women’s Club, and registration will be from 8:30 to 8:45.

In order to sign up, students must have the registration form and permission slips for each team member completed.  Permission slips will be given out in your child’s school and need to be handed in by Friday, November 16th.

Those who prefer to remain at the high school can assist by sorting, counting and packing.  Students must also fill out a permission slip to participate as a volunteer.  A sizable number of volunteers are needed to make this day a success.  All participants and volunteers are welcome.

This cross-age project, cosponsored by the Local Wellness Council, will provide an opportunity for students and adults to work together and experience the true spirit of the holiday season.  For further information, please contact Kathy Bottini, Melissa Cook, or Rebecca Sinusas Co-chairs, in the Strong Guidance Department at 860-349-7255.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
