A group of concerned residents in Middlefield are deciding whether to offer bike safety classes in reaction to accident over the weekend that left an 11-year-old local boy seriously injured.
Benjamn Molkenthin was riding his bicycle Saturday morning when he was struck by an SUV pulling out of the Rockfall Post Office parking lot on Main Street. The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, Mayra Haag of Middlefield, may not have seen the boy.
Molkenthin and the bike were pinned under the vehicle, police said. Molkenthin was airlifted to Hartford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
It is not clear if the boy was wearing a helmet. No charges have been filed against the driver.
