Middletown journalist and historian Erik Hesselberg will speak to the annual gathering of the Society of First Middletown Settlers Descendants for a program on the city history as a seaport Friday from 1:15 to 3 p.m. at the Russell Library Hubbard Room.
This program is open to public. Refreshments will be served prior to the talk.
Hesselberg's research is drawn from a book he is working on about early commerce of the lower Connecticut River.
Meet and greet the speaker and members of the First Middletown Settlers Descendants before hearing about the once thiriving port of Middletown and Hesselberg's forthcoming book on this topic: Vanished Port: Middletown and the Great Era of the West Indies Trade.
The event is co-sponsored by Russell Library, Godfrey Library, and the Middlesex Historical Society.
