The Town of Middlefield will hold its annual budget meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Middlefield Community Center, but it is unlikely that a vote will be taken on the town's $4.16 million spending proposal for 2011-2012.
Instead, First Selectman Jon Brayshaw recently said, the vote will be postponed in order to give the town more time to adjust the budget as a result of the recent "no" vote in the Regional School District 13 budget referendum.
According to a recent report, the board of finance has reduced Brayshaw's original $4.36 million request by $200,000, an amount that when combined with the latest school budget proposal would lead to an overall increase just shy of 1 mill.

Brayshaw said if the vote was postponed, the next budget meeting would be scheduled in two weeks. Regional School District 13 is expected to hold a District Meeting on Monday, May 23, followed by a second referendum on Tuesday, May 24.
The Board of Education will meet this Wednesday to discuss any possible changes to the school budget.
