Update: CL&P Expects to Restore Power Statewide by Midnight

Several hundred customers in Killingworth lost power during Wednesday night's storm.

Update 4:05p.m.

Connecticut Light and Power hopes to have the electricty turned back on by midnight for thousands of customers left in the dark by overnight storms, including about a hundred customers in Killingworth.

As of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, 104 customers in the town were still without power, according to the company's website. Many of the outages were caused by high winds that knocked down trees and branches overnight.

Route 148 east of Route 81 remained closed Thursday afternoon, as crews worked on an unknown problem.

"For CL&P customers who lost power due to this storm, we expect to substantially complete work by 8 p.m. tonight, and expect the remaining few hundred customers to have their power restored by midnight tonight or sooner,"  said CL&P's Acting President Jim Muntz.  "We will keep working and are committed to getting everyone back on as quickly and as safely as possible."

Original Story

Connecticut Light and Power crews were busy Thursday morning restoring power to more than 500 customers in Killingworth.

"A wind advisory remains in effect this morning, so more wind gusts could cause additional issues," said Al Roy, CL&P's manager of Emergency Management. "The winds are helping to take down small limbs and they are hitting the power lines and equipment."

According to the company, more than 500 line and tree crews were pre-staged for the storm in various locations across the 149 cities and towns the company services.

Outages are reported from East Lyme to Enfield. As of 9 a.m. Thursday more than 18,800 customers remained with power according to the company's website.

Estimates as to when power will be restored will be available once assessments are complete.
