Town Officials Declare State of Emergency in Middlefield

Roads in the town will remain impassable through most of the weekend, according to First Selectman Jon Brayshaw.

Middlefield town officials declared a state of emergency on Saturday morning after a blizzard dumped upwards of three feet of snow on the town.

Middlefield First Selectman Jon Brayshaw urged residents to stay off the roads and to be safe while clearing snow.

"There's no question we are faced with a weather related challenge. The good news is there's been no loss of power. The bad news is that the roads are virtually impassable and will continue to be through most of the weekend," he said.

The town's storm hotline has been opened for anyone with a storm related problem at 860-342-8349. Call 911 if you have an emergency.

The town will not open an emergency shelter at this point to prevent people from driving on the roads, Brayshaw said.
