Scale Opens at Transfer Station

The new scale will more accurately measure the amount of demolition debris being thrown away by residents and businesses.

After a few months of delays the new scale at the Durham-Middlefield is now in full operation.

The scale opened Monday and will be used to more accurately weigh demolition debris, which previously had been measured by cubic yards. Demolition debris will now be measured by weight alone.

Users will be charged $0.07 per pound. There is a $3 minimum charge.

The change is expected to to the towns.

The final cost of the scale is yet to be determined. Construction work, including a paved roadway leading to the scale as well as a retaining wall, is expected to continue at the site.
