Public Hearing Scheduled for Tuesday on 19.67 Acres

Middlefield's Board of Selectmen have agreed to sell the former piece of Powder Ridge property to resident Lori Vogel-Brown.

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Middlefield on the proposed sale of a 19.67 acre parcel of land once part of the Powder Ridge property.

Voters will eventually decide at a town meeting whether to support the sale of the land to Lori Vogel-Brown of 111 Powder Hill Road. Vogel-Brown has offered the town $300,000 for the property.

The land runs parallel to the entrance to the ski area and was previously a part of the 246-acre property but was divided by the town last spring before the ski area was sold to Powder Ridge Mountain Park for $700,000.

Middlefield selectmen agreed to Vogel-Brown's offer last month and Powder Ridge Mountain Park gave up its right of first refusal to the property following a 30-day waiting period.

The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. at the Middlefield Community Center.

A copy of the sales agreement can be obtained at the Town Clerk's office at Middlefield Town Hall.

A recent appraisal of the property by Hunter Associates of Farmington, Conn. valued the land at $300,000 as a single building lot, although Vogel's attorney, John Corona, recently said his client planned to use the land as an extension of open space for her horse farm.
