In the months since, Hayes has shared details of his proposal to buy the 220-acre town owned property with boards and commissions, as well as with the public during a series of open houses held at both Powder Ridge and Brownstone.

Under an agreement reached with the town, he would buy the property for $700,000 and is required to invest another $2 million and provide downhill skiing by the end of 2014.

The deal will be sent to referndum on August 16, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving Middlefield residents the final say on whether they want to sell Powder Ridge to Hayes.
