Powder Ridge Public Hearing Tonight at Memorial School

Middlefield residents will get one more chance to hear Sean Hayes' proposal to buy and restore Powder Ridge ski area Thursday night.

Hayes will share his plan to turn the town's abandoned ski area into a winter sports park that he expects to draw thousands of visitors each year at a public hearing at 7 p.m. at Memorial School.

At a , the owner of Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park in Portland told residents of the town that Powder Ridge would work in tandem with his facility across the Connecticut River.

In the months since, Hayes has shared details of his proposal to buy the 220-acre town owned property with boards and commissions, as well as with the public during a series of open houses held at both Powder Ridge and Brownstone.

Under an agreement reached with the town, he would buy the property for $700,000 and is required to invest another $2 million and provide downhill skiing by the end of 2014.

The deal will be sent to referndum on August 16, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving Middlefield residents the final say on whether they want to sell Powder Ridge to Hayes.
