Post Irene Killingworth Update

The latest information on shelters, debris collection and outages from First Selectwoman Cathy Iino.

The Killingworth Transfer Station is open today, Wednesday, August 31, until 7:00 p.m. for brush only.

Tomorrow, September 1, the Transfer Station will be open from noon to 7:00 p.m. for household waste as well as brush. No bulky waste can be accepted. If you can wait until Saturday, please do so, to prevent congestion as much as possible.

HK Middle School will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily until power is restored for showers, battery charges, and water. Bring a towel and soap. Note that we have extended the opening for an extra hour to accommodate people returning from work. A word of warning: the showers are not very warm, especially at the end of the day.

Potable water is also available 24/7, free of charge, from the Connecticut Water Company truck at the Killingworth Traffic Circle.

At last report, 93 percent of Killingworth is still without power. That's a very slight improvement over the 100 percent outage in our town after the storm.
