No Driving/Parking Ban for Durham

Governor Malloy has warned against residents traveling during Hurricane Irene, but there is no official ban on driving or parking in Durham.

Durham First Selectwoman, Laura Francis, has said that there is currently no official ban on driving/parking in Durham during Hurricane Irene.

"We're just commuincating what he [Malloy] has said to the general public - get where you need to be by night time. He's asking everybody to stay off of the roads."

Francis warned that winds and rain will be getting heavy around midnight tonight.

"He [Malloy] is prepared to close the highways if need be, but he hasn't done that yet," said Francis.

The eye of the storm is currently 143 miles south of Chesapeake moving North-North East at 13 mph with sustained winds of 85 mph. The outermost bands of the storm reach as far north as Massachusetts.
