Happy Holiday and More...

From the Desk of Laura Francis, Durham First Selectwoman

Before everyone "hits the road" tomorrow for our glorious 4th of July weekend, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy holiday and summer.

Please remember to watch your speed on our town roads.  Our precious students and residents are out riding bikes, taking walks and running.

We've put together a summer guide with other safety tips that can be found on our website.

Also, summer is the time that peddlers and solicitors might knock on your door.  Please note that everyone must have a permit in order to do that kind of business in Durham.  Kim Garvis issues the permits after a background check from our Resident State Trooper Pete DiGioia and a signature from the First Selectmen.  All approved permitees are listed on our website. If someone knocks on your door and does not have a permit from the Town Clerk's office, you are advised to call 911.  The state police will respond.

Don't forget to frequent our Farmers' Market. Not only is it a great way to buy local but also a place to visit with your friends and neighbors.  There is a visiting special guest each week.  Next week, July 7th is Public Safety Day.  Come on down and purchase ($15.00) a reflective house number sign for your house.  Remember, if we can't find you, we can't help you.  All proceeds go to the Durham Volunteer Fire Explorers and the Durham Animal Response Team.

Once again, have a happy holiday and enjoy your summer.
