Got a Junk Car? Donate it in Durham!

The town's volunteer fire department is looking for vehicles to use during training, as well as for this month's mock crash aimed at preventing underage drinking.

It's not every day that someone offers to haul away your junk, but that's exactly what the Durham Volunteer Fire Department is doing.

The department is searching high and low for junk cars or trucks. The vehicles will be used during firefighter training as well as the upcoming mock crash aimed at helping prevent underage drinking during prom season.

Here's how you can help:

If people wish to donate, the town crew will pick up the vehicle and dispose of it. The donation is tax deductible. The town accepts cars, trucks, buses and airplanes. Yes, airplanes!

If anyone is interested in donating a vehicle, call the public works department at 860-349-1816. IMPORTANT: Cars must have a title to be processed at the scrapyard.

I would suggest to parents to donate a book to the classroom or school library in their child's nameRead More to celebrate the child's birthday, or other significant event, instead of sending in cupcakes or other sweets.
